Hi Roger,

I just signed up for this forum, and let me start by thanking you for an excellent product, very good job. :-)

I tried to watch through most of the requests, and I just wanted to write down what I miss in Gallery Server Pro, as a new user:

1. Comments. I have an old gallery written in ASP with over 2000 pictures (party-pictures etc), with comments made by me and my friends. I want people to have the opportunity to make funny or informative comments to my pictures. :-)

2. Rating. It would be cool if my users could rate my pictures, because I know not everyone will look through all of my over 2000 pictures to find the best ones. I have to admit not everyone is as funny or good. hehe

3. Integration. I read your last post on integration in the support-thread. This is also a mayor request. I just set up a Umbraco (cms) site, and would love to have the gallery integrated der.

4. Job-log. When I first made the album, and uploaded all the pictures from my old album, I encountered a error during synchronizing. I really had problems finding the error, but after I while I understood that there were some pictures that wasn't working (not rendering). In the end I had to go through all pictures to find the not working ones.. Wouldn't it be great if the gallery synchronized, and then showed me a log of pictures not working, so I could handle these afterwards, instead of my entire synchronizing-job stopping? Don't know if this is possible, but this was one of my first experiences with Gallery Server Pro.

There isn't a lot of good galleries on ASP.NET out there (not free ones anyway), so I really appreciate you work Roger. Looking forward to new versions with upgraded features. :-)

Regards,
Morten

Those are all excellent suggestions, and ones that I have plans to implement. Until now I haven't publicly announced plans for a job log, but I realized the need for it a while ago.

I can improve Gallery Server to better handle errors while processing media objects if you send me samples of photos/videos/etc that cause errors. I can test using those files and improve the error handling support. You can email me at rogerweb *at* techinfosystems *dot* com.

Hi Roger,

I'll send you a couple of pictures that are broken, and I had trouble with, when I get back from work today, if I can find them again amongst 2000 pictures... ;o)

Cheers,
Morten

Boo

Hey I'm just looking around at Gallery's to use for a new site we are building (community & ezine).

I'm really in need of a comment & rate features so thought I would bump this up the list.

I see you are working on a release for early next year - any chance that any of these features will be implement?

Hey looks to be a great product and piece of software you have developed here.

Will download it now to have a better look.

Hey thanks Roger!

NGallery had these features... well before MS Comunity Server gobbled them up...

The source code is still out there - is there any way in useing it to get the rateings & comments?

I'm not sure what the licensing of nGallery is/was, so it's hard to say whether it might work. But more importantly, the architecture of GSP is probably sufficiently different such that integration of the code would be difficult. And these days with the elegance and usability of AJAX it is probably better to use the new approaches rather than 3-year old technology.

2.2 is primarily a refactoring of the UI architecture but will not look very different or add significant features. New features will be the focus of the post-2.2 release, and it has not yet been determined what those features will be. I'll try to publish a roadmap early in 2009.
