Hi, I am really impressed with this software, even though I haven’t tried it out yet. While I was flicking through the manual I had a few thoughts.

Will the program ever be able to integrate with Active Directory? I can see many benefits from this; user accounts already created, user information, security, Enterprise deployment etc, group permissions... list is endless.

Will there be a download full album button? (High resolution original photos), this would be a very very handy feature.

I do agree that when a user downloads an individual image it should download the full version and not the compressed version (read in other thread).

and permissions, lets say...

User1 has 5 albums (within his main album hierarchy)

He wants the permissions to be as follows:

Album1
User1
User2

Album2
User1
User2

Album3
User1
Every user

Album4
User1
User3

Album5
User1
User2
User3

If this is already possible please let me know, but this is the type of granular permissions I’m looking for and would be very good if the user could decide who he wants to access his albums so the user can select which users he wants to do what; this would save a lot of administrative overhead.

Keep up good work,

Let me know

Matt

It already does. See How To: Integrate Gallery Server Pro with Active Directory

This is frequently requested, and is on track for the 2.3 release (second half of 2009).

Your permissions scenario is definitely doable. I just recreated all five albums and users on my test bed to verify. It requires four roles: one for each user, plus one role that generically provides access to Album3. Then you create 3 users, assign each user to their role, and also add each user to the "View Album3" role.

However, only a user in the System Administrator role can create users and roles, so it is not yet possible to let your users be mini-administrators over their album. I am looking into this feature for the future, though.

If you have a small number of users, you can install a web application for each one and then give them complete control over their gallery.
