Hello.

I am currently installing Gallery Server Pro v2.1.3222 with the following:

-Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (9.00.3042.00)
-Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) - 2000.086.3959.00 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)
-Microsoft MSXML (2.6 3.0 6.0 )
-Microsoft Internet Explorer (7.0.5730.11)
-Microsoft .NET Framework (2.0.50727.1433)
-Operating System: Windows Server 2003 64-bit

During the installation, I receive the following:

You may have a corrupted copy of InstallGalleryServerProSql2005.sql. Try the download again and inspect the contents of this file with a text editor. It shouldn't have all those Asian-looking characters.

You'll find the file in the installer/sql directory.

I just did a test where I downloaded that file from www.galleryserverpro and manually executed it against an empty database. It worked fine. Hopefully the second time is the charm for you.

Thank you for your response. The characters show up as asian in the forum, but they show up as boxes in the installer results window.

I downloaded and updated the file, removed the database, and tried again. It gave me the same error.

Please advise.

Please try this experiment:

Create an empty database. Open InstallGalleryServerProSql2005.sql in Management Studio and execute it against your database. Does it work? (it does for me)

Hello.

I tried the experiment and when I opened up the file and executed, it gave me the message:

A fatal scripting error occurred.
Incorrect syntax was encountered while parsing GO.

The SQL text looks like the following (where the asian characters are squares):

It sure sounds like a corrupted file, but I don't understand why it works when I download it but not you. Attached is another copy of this file. Download it and see if it works any better than your copy.

File Attachment(s):
InstallGalleryServerProSql2005.zip (18kb) downloaded 1 time(s).

I am running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 RC2, Standard x64 Edition, Service Pack 2, where the strange text occurs. I tried your above file and it still shows strange.

I opened up your the file on a different computer (Windows XP) with Management Studio and it read fine.

Please advise.

So it looks corrupted on one computer but not another?

Maybe this has something to do with the way it is encoded? I took the file and changed its encoding to ANSI (it was UTF-8 little endian). It's attached. See if this one works any better.

I really don't know much about encoding issues, so I'm kinda grasping at straws here...

File Attachment(s):
InstallGalleryServerProSql2005.zip (15kb) downloaded 1 time(s).

Hello.

It looks like that made it work. Thank you very much.

However, upon configuring the Site Admin email page, I didn't enter an SMTP and proceeded to Save Changes. I cannot get into the application now because of the following message:

The SMTP host was not specified.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: The SMTP host was not specified.

Source Error:

The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:

1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:

<%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>

or:

2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:

<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.

Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

That's good news about the SQL file. I will look into converting the encoding to ASCII for the next release. Meanwhile, those of you who encounter this issue can change the encoding yourself by using a program like Notepad++ or using the one I posted in this thread.

Regarding the SMTP error, I'm afraid that's a bug I must fix. GSP tests to see if you have .NET 3.0 installed. You don't, so it tries to email you, but an error occurs during the emailing. The workaround is to manually configure the host in the smtpServer setting in ~/config/galleryserverpro.config. Open it in a text editor to edit.

You can also avoid this error by installing .NET 3.0. You'll get better image metadata extraction if you do.

Perfect! I modified the file to show false for the time being until I get my SMTP service.

Thank you very much for this wonderful product and your extremely prompt and helpful support!
