What's the catch?
There is no catch. This project started in 2002 from my desire to share my
photos over the web. I wanted my photos to remain on my own server, not somebody
else's like EasyShare's or Shutterfly's. Since there weren't any free
solutions to choose from at the time, I wrote my own.
From this simple beginning Gallery Server Pro has evolved into a powerful, industrial
strength media server that is equally at home inside an intranet, on a large corporation's
web site, or sitting on Aunt Betty's web server in the basement serving up photos
and videos of her neices and nephews.
Gallery Server Pro is freely released under the GNU General Public License. You
are welcome to download the source code, modify it, and redistribute it as you wish.
The only condition is you are not allowed to sell it.
Gallery Server Pro doesn't contain any adware, spyware, trojans, viruses, or sexually
transmitted diseases. Since it is written entirely in .NET managed code, you are
welcome to look at the source to prove to yourself it is safe (or just to browse
if that is your idea of a good time).
I am still skeptical. What do you gain from spending all this time writing, packaging,
releasing, and maintaining Gallery Server Pro?
In addition to the satisfaction of solving mental challenges and letting others
benefit from the fruits of my labor, I generate potential leads to my software consulting
business
Tech Info Systems. Since my career is based on writing professional grade
custom software applications for others, Gallery Server Pro serves as a convenient
demonstration of my abilities.
So, if you could use an extra hand on your .NET project, give me a holler.
While you will find
donation links on this site, Gallery Server Pro is entirely free and fully
functional whether or not you give any money. However, any moo-lah you
throw my way is greatly appreciated, and will help pay the bills and provide
additional motivation to continue improving it.
So, please, enjoy Gallery Server Pro and don't worry. Be happy. Life is good.
