What's the catch?

There is no catch. This project started in 2002 from my desire to share my
photos over the web. I wanted my photos to remain on my own server, not somebody
else's like Flicker or Shutterfly. Since there weren't any free solutions to
choose from at the time, I wrote my own.
From this simple beginning Gallery Server Pro has evolved into a powerful, industrial
strength media server that is equally at home inside an intranet, on a large corporation's
web site, or sitting on Aunt Betty's web server in the basement serving up photos
and videos of her neices and nephews.
Gallery Server Pro is my full time job. I work on it nearly every day and
will continue to build on it by adding your frequently requested features. I also
appreciate submissions by other developers and integrate their code when it adds
useful functionality.
Gallery Server Pro is freely released under the GNU General Public License. You
are welcome to download the source code, modify it, and redistribute it as you wish.
Gallery Server Pro doesn't contain any adware, spyware, trojans, viruses, or sexually
transmitted diseases. Since it is written entirely in .NET managed code, you are
welcome to look at the source to prove to yourself it is safe (or just to browse
if that is your idea of a good time).
What is the deal with requiring a product key?
Gallery Server Pro is supported entirely by donations. Your support allows me to
continue working on and improving Gallery Server Pro.
I ask you to enter a product key after 30 days to give you an opportunity to show
your support. One of the steps of the
Product Key Wizard asks you to consider donating an amount reflecting the
value you get from Gallery Server Pro. No donation is required, though - you get
a valid product key regardless of your donation.
So, please enjoy Gallery Server Pro and don't worry. Be happy. Life is good.
